The Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival 2024, themed “Celebrating Mid-Autumn Across Generations,” is set to illuminate the streets of Singapore’s Chinatown from August 30 to October 2, 2024. This year’s festival highlights the evolution of Mid-Autumn traditions across three generations, showcasing Singapore’s rich multiculturalism, strong family bonds, cultural heritage, and communal joy. The event features a grand street light-up, a magnificent eight-meter high lantern centerpiece, and various interactive activities such as the popular Lantern Walk and Lantern Riddles in digital format. The festival will also host a Festive Fair, free Weekend Stage Shows, and a Lantern Painting Competition, offering a vibrant cultural experience for both locals and international visitors. The “Adopt a Lantern” campaign, now in its ninth year, will promote sustainability by repurposing selected lanterns at the end of the festival.
Mrs. Josephine Teo, Minister for Digital Development and Information, will inaugurate the festival, emphasizing the significance of celebrating Mid-Autumn traditions across generations. Ms. Lim Shoo Ling, Director of Arts and Cultural Precincts at the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), highlights the festival’s role in enhancing Singapore’s cultural appeal and fostering multi-generational ties. The Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival 2024 is a celebration of timeless traditions, bringing together the past, present, and future in a joyous and culturally rich event.
